With images of plastic filled beaches flooding our news feeds, pollution is a hot topic for many. Beyond the beaches however, pollution isn’t just about plastic and litter, but also the other contaminants that are released into the air around us.

Many of us are well aware of the effects air pollution has on the environment, particularly the effects of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions which affect our oceans and lead to global warming, but what about the effects these pollutants have on us directly?

Contaminants, such as air pollution, once released into the environment, can have an adverse effect on both the environment and us; our skin, hair and body. Pollution can have a variety of effects on our skin, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin imperfections and dehydration to name a few. As for your hair, split ends, scalp irritation, and dryness are among the many effects pollution can have.

Impact of Pollution

When pollutants are absorbed by the skin, a number of consequences can start to occur. These can include the skin being robbed of oxygen, or a decrease in the production of skin collagen.

These consequences can then cause a variation of adverse effects on our skin. Among these adverse effects are skin sagging, fine lines and wrinkles.

Combating Pollution Effects with Cosmetics

There is no shortage of products available to help combat the effects of pollution on our skin and hair. Anti-pollution skincare is now an established market and has been for around 10 years, with thousands of new products launched each month. There are a range of skin care formulations, including moisturisers, sprays and other shields which provide protection from blue-light, UVA, UVB and other airborne pollutants.

Where many products aim to protect against the effects of pollution, others are also available which to help to repair the damage caused by it too, many of which are hydrate, smooth and promote anti-redness.

Anti-Pollution Ingredients

There are a wide selection of anti-pollution active ingredients now readily available on the market which help to protect our skin against pollution. One of the most popular ingredients for this is film forming. Film forming literally creates an invisible film on the skin or hair to help prevent pollution penetrating the skin or hair.

There are also a number of other ingredients available which alternatively help to remove the pollution from our skin and hair. These can help to reduce the damage already caused by pollutants, and can be used within an abrasive scrub or a gentle wash that lifts the particles from the affected area. These products are usually most suited for those who are exposed to populated city and travel pollution.

Anti-Pollution Formulation

Our anti-pollution formulation works not only as a protector against pollution, but can also be used as a treatment, and is suitable for both skin and hair, making it an all-round anti-pollution formulation which can be adapted to requirements.

Used as a protector, the formulation is suitable as a spray that can be applied to the hair or skin, creating an invisible barrier of protection; this can then be washed off when required. Alternatively, the formulation can be applied as treatment in the form of a shampoo which helps to wash out the pollutants.

Environmental Stressors

Did you know that it isn’t just pollutants that many skin care products protect against? Other environmental stressors such as air conditioning and blue light can also be protected against too . Just like pollution, these invisible contaminants can have adverse effects on your skin too. Similar to anti-pollution products, these products can be formulated as creams, serums and the alike.

If you’re looking for your very own anti-pollution or anti-aging product, why not talk to us more about our capabilities?
